As was decided in our last meeting in Vienna, the spring 2004 EPOG meeting will
be held in Athens and more specifically in the premises of the National Technical
University.
Please

For accompanying persons (...and not only)
REACHING ATHENS FROM THE AIRPORT:
1) by taxi.
It will
cost you around €20,00-25,00 depending on the trafic.
2) by bus and METRO. You can take bus No E94,E95,
just outside the Arrivals hall.

Tickets
for the METRO (unique €0,70
for a single journey including change of line) can be purchased at every METRO
station, either from a ticket office or from automatic machines (which can give
change back if you don't have the exact coins).

The
nearest to the campus METRO station is KATEHAKI (click here
to see map around this station).
Bus No 140
makes a stop near the METRO exit (see again the map). It is a 5-7min journey
and you get off at the MAIN ENTRANCE of the campus (see the map of the campus),
just after the first right turn of the bus.
There is also bus No 242 which makes a cyclic trip CAMPUS-CATEHAKI METRO
STATION and covers the whole Campus (the stop at Catehaki is the same as for
Bus 140).
EPOG
Meeting
The
meeting on Friday 23rd, will be held on the ground floor of the Multimedia/ Library
Building (the highest building in the campus, see map). On Saturday 24, we will
use the Senate Room in the Administrator Building (2nd level). The Rooms, as
well as the paths in the campus to reach these two points, will be marked with
the sign (click
to enlarge).
Friday,
23rd
The best way to
come to the University Campus is to use at first the METRO and reach the KATEHAKI
station. Then use Bus No
242 -the bus stop is opposite the Metro station (see again map).
Please buy the bus tickets at the METRO Station ticket office, specifying that
you are asking for bus tickets (€0.45). The Bus No 242 time table
is:
08:45, 09:15, 09:45, 10:15, 10:45, 11:30, 12:00, 12:45, 13:15, 13:45, 14:15
The Bus gets inside and covers the University Campus. Get off at the Administation
Building and ask for the Library Building (see again map
of the campus).
Nick Tracas will be waiting for you at the exit of the KATEHAKI METRO
station at 08:30 in order to catch the 08:45 Bus.
Lunch
We are going to have lunch in the University cafeteria.Dinner

Time: 20:00 , (see map from the METRO station to the restaurant).
Nick Tracas will be at 19:45 at the exit of the ACROPOLIS Metro station (there are two exits, choose the "Makriyanni-D. Areopagitou" one) and we walk (10 min) to the restaurant.

24th
The
University mini-bus will be waiting for you at 8:45 in the bus stop opposite
the CATEHAKI METRO Station and it will bring you to the Administration
building where the Saturday meeting will take place (Senate Room).
At the end of the meeting, the mini-bus will drop us at CATEHAKI Metro
Station in order to reach Acropolis (by METRO) and have a guided tour for about
2 hours. Accompanying persons could meet us at the ACROPOLIS METRO Station
(get out from the METRO Station from the "Makriyanni-D. Areopagitou"
exit) at 1:00pm.

The Benaki Museum ranks among the great benefactions which have enriched the material assets of the Greek state. At the same time, it is the oldest museum in Greece, which functions as a Foundation under Private Law. Through its extensive collections covering several different cultural fields, as well as its more general range of activities which serve more than one social need, the Benaki Museum is perhaps the sole instance of a complex structure within the wider network of museum foundations in Greece.

The Museum of Cycladic Art is devoted to the study and promotion of ancient Greek art. It was founded in 1986 in order to house the collection of Cycladic and Ancient Greek art belonging to Nicholas and Dolly Goulandris. Starting in the early sixties, and with a permit by the Greek State, the couple collected Greek antiquities, with special interest in the prehistoric art from the Cycladic islands.

The Frissiras
Museum is the only Museum for Contemporary European Painting in Greece. It is
housed in Plaka, in two adjacent neoclassical buildings brought up to the latest
museum specifications, and operates as a nonprofit private entity. The collections
comprise sections of paintings, drawings, sculptures and engravings by major
European artists in constructive dialogue with their Greek counterparts, and
attempt to trace the trends and record the figures of the anthropocentric European
painting after World War II. Among the exhibits of the Museum are works by Hockney,
Auerbach, Blake, Rustin, Pat Andrea, Dado, Segui, Rego, Velickovic, Arroyo,
Adami, Diamantopoulos, Moralis, Ěavroidis, Theofylaktopoulos, Botsoglou, Dikos
Vyzantios, Christoforou and the younger Kirby, Howson, Corpet, Martinelli, Smith,
Pasieka, Marrey, Schauwecker, Lappas, Missouras, Manzavinos, Sacaillian, Daskaliakis,
Bitsikas... It is noted that the collection comprises over 3000 works.
From 18/3/2004 to 30/6/2004, the Frissiras Museum presents the exhibition "A
Century of Belgian Painting - From Felicien Rops to Jan Fabre", an overview
of Belgian painting from the end of the 19th century up to our days.
The Archeological Museum, unfortunately, is closed due to renovation works.
You can also visit Acropolis Museum which is situated inside Acropolis.
